Breakdown

What GFA provides government partners

  • Our rigorous selection process provides access to emerging leaders with in-demand skills like data analytics, fiscal management, policy development, and project management. In addition to being evaluated for role requirements, applicants are screened for competencies critical to public sector leadership: vision, self-reflection, evidence-based decision-making, and a commitment to equity.

  • The U.S. Office of Personnel Management reports that increasing diversity in public service increases local and state agencies' capacity to serve and protect people with diverse experiences and backgrounds, increase government innovation, and boost productivity.

GFA’s program participants represent a diverse community of leaders: 79% identify as people of color, 37% as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and 42% as first-generation college graduates.

  • GFA employs recruiting and matching tools to source diverse candidates to meet the needs of government agencies, and maintains partnerships with universities, colleges, and nonprofits to recruit applicants.

  • Training and support to our Fellows encourages retention. 85% of our recent alum cohort chose to remain in government or government-adjacent roles after the Fellowship.

Qualities

What GFA looks for in government partners

Our government partners collaborate with us to invest in emerging leaders and imagine new ways to ensure public systems achieve greater opportunities for all people.

We also ask that our government partners:

  • Pay the full-time salary and benefits of the fellow(s).

  • Assign managers who are excited to support, mentor, and regularly meet with the fellow(s).

  • Agree to GFA program requirements, including program fee.
